I marinai mal sopportano i soprusi del comandante. La situazione degenera quando il marinaio Vakulincuk d\u00e0 l&#8217;esempio ai suoi compagni rifiutandosi di mangiare la carne avariata. Scatta la repressione. Viene ordinata la fucilazione di una parte dell&#8217;equipaggio, ma i soldati si rifiutano di sparare. La rivolta si propaga quando Vakulincuk viene ucciso da un ufficiale. Tutta Odessa scende in piazza, l&#8217;esercito spara su tutti, donne, vecchi e bambini. Si viene a sapere che una flotta sta puntando su Odessa. Il <em>Potemkin<\/em> esce in mare per la battaglia.
